The University College of Osteopathy (UCO), was earlier known as the British School of Osteopathy (BSO), is currently the oldest as well as the largest school of Osteopathy in the entirety of United Kingdom. It holds a Recognised Qualification (RQ) status from the General Osteopathic Council, which is a statutory regulatory body for osteopathy in the UK. In October 2017, the UK Privy Council awarded the institution the University College status.
BCO, which is now UCO, was founded by John Martin Littlejohn in 1915, who was himself an Osteopath but due to the World War I, he was not incorporated until 1917. It was in 1963 that the school received charity status. The Princess Royal became the institution’s Patron in 1984. All in all, UCO is dedicated to educating osteopaths, pursuing osteopathic research and treating patients.
With over 40,000 patient appointments annually; the clinical centre of UCO at 98-118 Southwark Bridge Road, London is the largest osteopathic clinical centre in Europe. It is comprised of the UCO’s general clinic and special clinics for children, expectant mothers, people with HIV/AIDS as well as people with sports injuries.
