About Brickworks

The Brickworks is a brand new student accommodation site in York. Situated on Hallfield Road, it’s less than a ten minute walk to York St John University and less than a 25 minute walk to the University of York – so it’s an ideal place to live whilst you are studying in York. The location also provides easy access to all the city centre has to offer. This student accommodation offers a total of 326 beds including a mixture of en-suite rooms, studios and cluster flats to suit a range of budgets and needs. All are furnished with a study desk and drawers, excellent storage, an en-suite bathroom and Amtico floor finish.  Key facilities include 100Mb WiFi throughout, a study room – ideal for working with friends or on your own and fantastic social spaces. The latter includes a large communal room with table tennis, yet the accommodation’s main calling card has to be the state-of-the-art gym. For your convenience, there’s a large Morrison’s with a cash machine less than a five minute walk away and for ventures further afield, the train station is close by.

    Booking Deposit:

    £250-£350 (depending on the room type) to confirm your booking.

    Deposit is converted to Security Deposit at the start of tenancy and refunded at the end of the tenancy (minus any damage caused)

    Cancellations before the 1st of August:

    Until the 31st of July, if you have not yet moved in you may cancel your booking. In this case, your booking deposit is non-refundable and it can’t be transferred to another customer or tenancy period. You will no longer be liable for the entire contract.

    Cancellations on or after the 1st of August:

    If you wish to cancel your booking on or after the 31st of July, regardless of whether you have collected your keys, you will remain liable for the contractual obligations laid out in the Tenancy Agreement unless you can offer proof you fit any of the following criteria:

    • Your UK Visa application has been denied.

    • You have failed to obtain the required qualifications to get into your first University of choice.

    • Extenuating circumstances e.g. ill-health, family circumstances.

    Where proof is provided within the timescales specified below, the cancellation will be granted and you will no longer be liable for the contractual obligations laid out in the Tenancy Agreement. Where the reason for cancellation can’t be proved in line with the above, you will remain liable for the full contractual rent, unless and until a replacement tenant is found for your accommodation. Once a replacement tenant is found, you will be released from your contractual obligations and any payments made towards the rent are refunded, however, Reservation Fee is retained as admin fees.

    Who can live at the property?

    Any full-time student (minimum 16 hours per week) enrolled in a university or college, who is 18 years of age or older on the date they submit the application form.

    What is included in the room rate?

    All utility bills (water, lights, and electricity), 100Mb internet access, 24 hour security and contents insurance.

    Can I choose my room in the building?

    Normally rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis. You can specify any special requests at the time of your booking and we will do our best to accommodate you in that room.

    What is your cancellation policy?

    Upon receipt of the email confirming your booking ('the acceptance email'), there is a 14 day cooling off period whereby you may cancel your booking by sending notice to the site via email.

    Is there somewhere to store my bike?

    Yes, we have secure bike storage available free to residents.

    What furniture is in my room?

    Our rooms are all standardised and have the same high-quality furniture throughout.

    Is there a curfew?

    No, you can come and go as you please. 24-hour security will be available to welcome you at the front door.

    Can I smoke in my room?

    No, the accommodation is non-smoking. You may smoke outside in designated smoking areas.

    Is contents insurance provided?

    Yes, we have partnered with the best provider of student contents insurance in the UK; Endsleigh Insurance. Policy detail will be provided to you on check-in.

    Will I have a phone in-room?

    Phones are not provided in-room, however Ask4 have provided VOIP telecoms which is available using your laptop and allows residents to call home at discounted rates.

    Will I have a TV in-room?

    No, however flat screen TV’s are provided in all communal areas and IPTV is available to stream on your laptop.

    Will my room be cleaned?

    We have a housekeeping team on-site, they will clean all communal areas in the residence. This does not include your room, however you can arrange a room clean with them directly at additional cost.

    What if something in my room breaks?

    We have a maintenance team on-site, they maintain the residence and make sure that it is always in the best order for students living in the building. Should you have a problem with anything in your room; say your fridge stops working or a lightbulb needs replacing, they will fix it as soon as possible for you.

    Are there accessible facilities throughout the buildings?

    The property features accessible rooms alongside wheelchair and mobility access throughout.

    Is there a laundry?

    Yes, we have enlisted the help of laundry specialists Circuit to manage our laundry facilities within the residence.

    What about my Post?

    Our frontdesk and security staff will take collections for you and sort your mail. Each resident has a secure mailbox which they share with around 4/5 students living in the building.

    Do you provide bedding?

    No. It is up to students to purchase their own bedding.

    What time is my check in/check out?

    The on-site team will email you closer to your contract start date to advise the check-in time, this will either be from 10am or 3pm. The check-out time is 10am on your contract end date

    What documents are required for me to check-in at a Pure residence?

    We require a copy of your passport, visa, photo and proof of address. These documents must be uploaded to the Student Portal within 10 days of receiving your accommodation offer. Failure to do this will mean that your check-in could be severely delayed and could possibly result in you not being able to check in.

    What is the normal payment structure?

    You need to pay a booking fee of £250 at the time of making your booking. If you have a UK guarantor you can pay in three installments; the first due 10 days before arrival, the second in January and the last in April. Alternatively the full payment is due 10 days before arrival.

    What is my booking fee?

    Once you check in your booking fee will be converted to a refundable damage deposit.

    Do I need a television licence?

    Yes, if you watch television in your bedroom. All homes in the UK require a television licence and your room is treated as a home under the licensing authority's definition. There is a large screen television with Sky in the Social Hub which has a television licence associated with it. However, for IPTV provided by Ask4 and viewed in your room, you will need a licence.

    What other charges can I expect?

    You will have to pay for laundry, phone calls, your TV licence, upgrade of insurance or internet packages, and any items purchased from the vending machine.

    Can I pay by Bank Transfer?

    It is possible to pay by bank transfer, however please be aware that it can take up to 5 working days to reach us and the payment must be showing in your account before you would be able to check-in to the residence.
