You can easily reach the University of Cumbria campus in 25 minutes walk or a 15 minutes short bus ride. You can choose to live in an ensuite room in a fully furnished shared flat and avail benefits of facilities like bike storage, cleaning services, around-the-clock support and onsite laundry.

At U-student Carlisle you can choose to live in an en-suite room and have all the privacy you need and enjoy a stimulating social space with your flatmates as well. Each room comes with a comfortable bed, study desk, more than plenty storage and ensuite shower. Each flat has a provision for a communal kitchen and lounge area, a perfect space to come home to; to relax, unwind and spend time with friends. A recommended icebreaker exercise is cooking a meal together, which will also give you a chance to get to know your flatmates better. If you do end up making a mess of the kitchen in the process, don’t you worry because the cleaning services will tidy up your communal spaces quite regularly! U-student student accommodation has a lift; for times when you want to get to your room with minimum effort and the stairs seem like a steep mountain! Many of you will be commuting by bikes; therefore, you can park them securely in the bike storage. The onsite laundry area will allow you to save time, commute and you can do laundry at your own convenience.
There are some pubs, cafes and restaurants within short walking distances from U-student student accommodation Carlisle. Café Sol has excellent coffee and is only 8 minutes walk, so you can be rest assured you will get that much-needed kick of caffeine to gear up for the long day of lectures. For a casual evening with friends, for a few rounds of drinks and appetizers, you must try out Thin White Duke and the Fat Fingers pubs, just a little over five minutes’ walk. For those of you, who haven’t mastered cooking skills yet; The Good Year Chop Suey House and Subway are both only a minutes’ walk!
The Carlisle city centre is within a short walk from U-student Carlisle, which simply implies that everything from museums, galleries and medieval architecture to shopping opportunities, restaurants, bars and nightclubs; are literally at your doorstep. There are also some live entertainment venues like the Sands Centre, whether its dance, drama, or comedy you’re in the mood for. You can discover some great bands playing live at the Brickyard or The Source.

Q. When can I book my accommodation?
A. If you are a first year you can book your accommodation when you have accepted your offer from your first-choice university, if you are returning to university for a later year then you can book your accommodation at any time.
Q. How do I book my accommodation?
A. Booking is a fully online process. Click ‘book now’ on your chosen location page to book your accommodation. Click ‘what’s next’ to see a full step-by-step guide on the booking process.
Q. Can I view the accommodation?
A. Of course you can. To arrange a viewing please click ‘book a tour’ on your chosen location page.
Q. Do I need to pay a damage deposit?
A. No. To keep your up-front costs as low as possible, u-student does not require a damage deposit. The £100 booking fee paid at point of booking is a non-refundable administration fee rather than a deposit.
Q. Can I choose a certain room?
A. Yes. The online booking process means you can search for a flat on the ‘choose a room’ page and book a particular room. Please refer to ‘what’s next’ to see a full step-by-step guide on the booking process.
Q. How do I pay my rent?
A. Rent is paid by card using the ‘financials’ function in your portal. Payments can be made in advance of the rent date but must reach u-student by the payment date. Once you have booked your accommodation you will be provided with log-in details for your portal.
Q. What if I pay my rent late?
A. A £20 administration late fee will be applied to your account and further £10 charges will be applied for each additional letter sent.
Q. What happens if my student loan is late?
Residents are advised to follow the checklist below to help ensure that their student loan application is processed as quickly as possible.
• Read all forms carefully and thoroughly. Follow the instructions and complete all relevant sections.
• Before you post the forms, make copies and keep them safe.
• Send any forms or letters by recorded delivery and keep a note of the tracking number. Check after a day or so to make sure the letter has been received.
• Keep a record of any calls you make. Write down the date, time, who you spoke to and what was said.
• Tell the Student Loan Company if your bank details change.
• If there is a problem, contact your university to get help.
• You may want to, make sure that you have a backup plan, such as a student account with an overdraft facility or a part-time job.
Q. Is there a charge for using credit or debit cards?
A. An additional 2% charge will be applied to the payment figure when paying by credit card. No additional charge will be applied to debit card payments.
Q. Will I have to pay council tax?
A. Residents who are full-time students are not required to pay council tax. Any residents who are not full-time students will be liable for payment of all of the council tax for their flat.

Q. What kitchen items are supplied?
A. All u-student accommodation is fully furnished and fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, pans and utensils. A list of items provided is available on the 'downloads' page of the website.
Q. How do I report repairs?
A. You can use the ‘talk to us’ function in your portal to report any maintenance issues or repairs.
Q. Can I have guests?
A. Guests can visit but they must sign in and out on each visit so that accommodation management has an accurate record of all on-site visitors in case of an emergency. While on site you are responsible for the behaviour of your guest(s) and any damage or disruption caused. You must also inform your flat mates if you have a guest staying as the living area is shared.
Q. Will my room be inspected?
A. All accommodation, including bedrooms and communal areas, will be checked every term. Accommodation management will notify residents of this at least 24 hours prior to the inspection taking place.
Q. Is there any type of pastoral care or security?
A. Our sites, include a reception area which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Accommodation management is based in the main reception area and can be contacted within office hours. Outside office hours we have trained security staff based in reception to assist residents with any problems or issues.
Accommodation management can help with a number of issues and provide guidance and support. u-student Carlisle, does not have a reception but does have an off-site accommodation manager who is contactable around the clock.

Q. Are my personal goods insured while at the accommodation?
A. Personal belongings insurance is provided by Endsleigh Insurance and included in your rent. An insurance certificate will be sent to you before arrival and a copy will be available on the ‘downloads’ page of the website. Residents have the option to purchase upgraded insurance cover from Endsleigh if required.
Q. Do you have a car park or bike storage facilities?
A. Bike storage is available on all sites and is free to use. You will need to provide your own lock to keep your bike secure.
Carlisle: Car parking spaces are not available on site. A small number of parking permits can be issued if you contact the local council.
Newcastle: Car parking spaces are not available on site, and the council will not issue any on-street parking permits in this area.
Q. Do you have any laundry facilities?
A. All u-student accommodation has on-site coin-operated laundry facilities including washing machines and tumble dryers.
Q. Is a cleaning service provided?
A. It is your responsibility to clean your room and you and your flat mates are jointly responsible for cleaning your flat. The stairs, hallways and entrances outside the flats will be cleaned on a regular basis by u-student staff and contractors. At the end of the tenancy, flats must be returned in good condition or additional charges may be levied.
