To confirm your accommodation, a one-off security deposit of four weeks' rent is payable. The security deposit will be used to cover any damages or additional cleaning fees applicable when you move out of the Village. The deposit is fully refundable subject to you having paid all other amounts under your Residential Agreement.
Rent is payable by direct debit either fortnightly, half-yearly or annually from a nominated account (a surcharge of 0.76% applies for all payments made by credit card or debit card)
You can secure your room for 2022 and rest easy knowing that you have the peace of mind to cancel your Residential Agreement for the following reasons:
If you are an International Student that has not yet traveled to Australia and you are not able to enter the country due to Government travel restrictions in relation to COVID-19, you may cancel your Residential Agreement up to 14 days prior to the agreement start date.
If your course does not resume teaching on campus, you may cancel your Residential Agreement up to 14 days prior to the agreement start date.
If your course has moved to online-only teaching, you may cancel your Residential Agreement up to 14 days prior to the agreement start date. This policy does not apply if you have the option to take your course on campus but elect to take it online only.
If you are a domestic first-year student applying through UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC and you do not get accepted at the university you may cancel your Residential Agreement within 5 days of the UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC Main Round offers release date
If you are an International Student and you do not get your Visa, you may cancel your Resident Agreement within 5 days of receiving notification from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
You will need to provide in writing, the supporting official evidence demonstrating you meet the criteria within the timeframes outlined above. You will need to provide your supporting evidence to [email protected] including your full name, application number, email, and phone number in your email.
If you have not yet moved in, you will be refunded your security deposit and any other upfront fees. If your contract has already started, you are liable for rent up to the date of notification / moving out of the village and your security deposit will be returned to you provided you have met the move-out conditions. However, application, registration, and cleaning fees (where applicable) are non-refundable.
Q. What is the first year exemption? am I eligible?
If you are a domestic first-year student applying through UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC you may be eligible for First Year Exemption.
Q. What is the eligibility?
* You did not get accepted to the university
* Were accepted to another university
* The course is now wholly offered online (ie not being taught internally)
If your contract has not commenced you will be refunded your security deposit and cleaning fee where applicable. Please note the application fee and registration fee if applicable are non-refundable.
If your contract has started, you are liable for rent up to the date of notification / moving out of the village.
Your security deposit and associated fees (excluding application, registration and cleaning fees where applicable) will be refunded.
Please note The First Year Exemption will not apply where you have accepted a University Offer but you elect to defer or withdraw from your studies. You must notify Village Management in writing (Resident Notification) within 5 days from the UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC Main Round offers release date (generally around late January – refer to the UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC website for actual dates).
Q. Am I able to leave my belongings in my room before my contract starts?
You will not be able to access your room or leave any belongings in the village before your contract starts.
Q. Can a couple live in the village?
All of our rooms are single occupancy
Q. Can I live in the village if I do not study at ECU?
Students from ECU, WAAPA, and PIBT (Perth Institute of Business and Technology) are all eligible to live at the Village. If there is availability, ECU staff are also able to live at the Village.
Q. Can I choose my own room?
You are able to submit preferences for specific rooms during the application process. We will do our best to accommodate all requests during the allocation process; however, due to the high capacity of requests, we cannot guarantee anything or make any promises.
Q. If the office is closed on the weekend, how can I check in?
If you are looking to check into the village on the weekend, there will be a member of staff or resident assistant on duty who will be able to assist you. Please notify us beforehand in an email.
Q. Can I bring my pet?
The village has a no pet policy – this, unfortunately, also includes goldfish.
Q. Do I need to bring kitchen utilities, such as a kettle or toaster, with me?
The kitchens are already kitted out with basic amenities, such as the fridge and the microwave. However, you will need to supply your own utilities such as a toaster, kettle, and sandwich press for example. If you live in shared accommodation, you can always wait until you meet your roommates to organize a group shop to figure out what everyone has brought along with them.
Q. Do I have to find my own roommates?
You are not required to find your own roommates. You are able to just apply on your own and we will allocate you within an apartment that is suitable.
Q. How are roommates allocated? Can I put in preferences?
Roommate allocations are conducted in accordance with any requests, such a: study preference, age, and gender. To make a request, you will be prompted to include these during the application process; however, if you would like to add a retrospective request please drop us an email.
