About Montana State University

Montana State University, a public land-grant research university in Bozeman, is the state’s largest university. The uni has produced over 64 Goldwater scholars and is among the 3% of colleges and universities for research expenditures. It has also been classified as an institution with a high undergraduate profile by the Carnegie Foundation. MSU is one of the best film schools in the nation and offers the only Master of Fine Arts in Natural History Filmmaking in the country, which is specially funded by the Discovery Channel.

MSU was founded in 1893 and was formerly known as the Agricultural College of the State of Montana. The uni is located 90 miles away from the Yellowstone National Park. Its motto ‘Mountains and Minds’ is in reference to Bozeman, a small city in Montana surrounded by five mountain ranges.
