Australia Sep 20, 2019

Beginning college soon? Get ready to experience the most fun years of life. University is the perfect package of parties, interesting people, traveling, great learning opportunities and one of the best places to socialize and make lifelong friends!

You must be excited to embark upon this new phase of your life and explore a whole new world of possibilities and adventures. Can’t figure out where to begin? We’ve narrowed it down to the first few things that should be a part of your bucket list in your first month of college.

1. Meet one new person every week

College is a great place to meet new people. It is easier to make friends, especially during the first few weeks because everybody around you is looking for their potential college gang. It generally takes a few months to find like-minded people around you. Making one good acquaintance every week is the perfect way to kick start your social life at college. Meet them at coffee shops or show them your book collection. But obviously, give yourself time and don’t force the process. College parties for freshers make for the perfect place to meet new people or simply just sit next to someone in the class and have a casual conversation with them. There are no rules on how to make new friends. Go with the flow and see what works for you. You’re in for a real adventure because university life leaves no room for disappointment.

2. Take classes just for fun

The first few days at college can be your little experiment. University is a lot more flexible than high school when it comes to attending classes. Even when you have a fixed set of classes in mind, there’s no harm in trying out a few different ones. Who knows, you might end up loving acting after taking an acting class! That’s the fun of college; it is full of surprises. So juggle a few classes and wait for your university to surprise you with something you would never expect!

3. Explore the campus inside-out

Your university will be your home for a significant amount of time, so acquainting yourself with all its hidden corners is a smart idea. Take an official tour on your first day but you should also stroll around exploring it by yourself. Most universities have historical figures and spots that have been there for many years, or in some cases, centuries. Try out different cafes and fast-food joints, visit the library often and read a book under a shady tree in the university garden to get the pure college experience. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, it’ll surprise you with something new and exciting.

4. Join a club

To have the best possible university experience, joining a club or two should definitely be on your list. All universities run hundreds of on-campus clubs or societies that add to the learning experience of students outside the class as well. Joining one of these clubs is a great way to meet people with similar interests as you and you get to hone your skills or learn something new. On top of that, students get to strengthen their resumes for life after college!

5. Make fun your top priority

College life is the perfect blend of unlimited fun and beautiful memories. Make sure that you experience it to the fullest. Being nervous about starting college is pretty normal. So, go ahead and say yes to party invitations, talk to new people in class and join a club or participate in on-campus activities. Just make sure you break free from your inhibitions and let yourself free. Once you do that, nothing can stop you from having the best time of your life. These are definitely the best years but they go away really quickly. So, make sure you make the most of it!

6. Get outside your comfort zone and choose to live independently

More than anything, college is the perfect place to discover the world around you with more independence. There will be no deadlines to be back home before midnight anymore. But make sure you make decisions wisely and prioritize your safety! Now that the world is your oyster, why not live it on your own terms at an independent student housing? More and more students are opting for off-campus housing. It will give you more personal space and the freedom to choose the accommodation that suits you best, depending on your budget. You also get to decorate it in a way that reflects your personal style.
