Helpful Tips For Moving Day

Australia Aug 14, 2019

We know how Moving-day can be a bit stressful and overwhelming, especially if you are going through it for the first time. Because of a plethora of chores and responsibilities, moving day can be a gigantic emotional turmoil!

Here are some tips that can make the whole process a little less complicated.

1. Lists are your new best friends

You can never go wrong with any kind of work when you are making lists simultaneously. This is an obvious one, but it’s usefulness cannot be underlined enough. You might need a bunch of lists for different categories like a basic to-do list, shopping list, list of boxes, etc. Once you get into the habit of making lists, it can come in handy throughout your Uni-life, not just on moving day.

2. Get professional movers. Or ask 5 friends.

Needless to say, hiring professional movers make the process a lot easier. They can also set up things and make adjustments as per your requirements (sometimes without charging extra). However, we understand that the process can put pressure on your wallet.

If you’d rather save your money now so you can attend that BTS concert in the fall, lean on your support system instead. Invite 4-5 friends and or ask your family to help you out. In fact, the more the merrier! Remember, even one additional person means the total trips from your room to the moving van get cut down in half!

Tell people you’ll take them out to their favorite restaurant as a thank you. But at the end of the day, you don’t want to turn into Ross Geller, just saying:

3. Get your mom to live with you for a few days.

It can be a little overwhelming for you and your mom when you move out of your home for the first time. It’ll be a great idea to have her with you throughout this process because nobody knows you better than your mother, and you know it! Not only can she help you get settled in, but your new place will feel like home with her being there for a few days.

4. Unpack smartly

Do not unpack all your boxes at once. If you do that, it could be the biggest clutter in the universe before you know it. Begin with the most essential box first and move ahead gradually. The best way to unpack is to never rush it. You can begin with putting up the curtains, so you don’t have to deal with unnecessary morning light when you wake up the next morning. More importantly, it will feel more like home when you add a little color with the curtains!

5. Take it slow and easy

Never assume that moving into a house is a one-day process. Give yourself time to settle in. Maybe you feel nervous about living by yourself in the beginning but things will start to fall in place gradually. Even if it takes an entire month to set things up, make sure that you think things through. Once you’re done, you want to look around and feel happy about setting up your new home, with your inimitable style!
