Best Apps For College Students

Australia Jun 26, 2019

Adulting can be very hard, especially when you’re suddenly thrust into the world of semesters, orientations, dorm rooms, assignments and all that jazz. So we’ve made your life a teeny bit easier. What we’ve got here are a bunch of apps that are APPsolutely made for you and will help you breeze through your college life.

Your college app:

First things first, check if your college has an app and then download it. It’ll help make sure you don’t lose your way to the library and end up at the dining hall instead. Speaking of dining halls, you might even find their menus on the app, so you know you’re going to get Chinese take-out on Meatloaf Monday. It might even have assignments, readings or grades on it that can save you when you’ve got a project or assignment to submit.

Skype:

After all the excitement of settling in, setting up, meeting your roommates and going to all the parties, wears off, the homesickness starts to set in. Especially when you have to do your own laundry. That’s when you miss your mom the most! Suddenly you start appreciating your friends back home even more. They really did get you. Not like the people here who have to be told the joke twice. Don’t worry, everybody’s new and getting used to college life just like you. Soon you’ll find new best friends and some of your professors will become lifelong mentors. But till then, download Skype so you can talk to your family and friends whenever you want (Maybe not whenever there’s a time difference after all!)

Venmo:

If only school had taught us how to do our budget and split our bills equally instead of teaching us calculus and equations. Before, when you went out to eat all you had to worry about was whether you’ll have space for a second dessert. Now when you go out with friends, you almost break up with them over the breakup of the check. Mark had the chicken, but Alice ordered the vegan burger and Jude only had an orange juice; calculating how much each person should pay feels like solving a complex math equation. The solution? We say goodbye to cash and just Venmo it! Your meal plan and laundry money and everything else will now be on a card. So don’t split a check 6 ways, just transfer your money through Venmo and save your friendships!

Studious:

Does your phone have a tendency for ringing, beeping, pinging very loudly at odd times, like in the middle of a class? Do you sometimes forget you had homework to do? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one, there are way too many distractions on campus. Which is why the Studious app will remind you about your homework and what’s impressive is that it can tell your phone what to do during class hours.
