How to fight Monday blues (and not be lazy)

Explore Aug 10, 2020

“Today I don’t feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed.” Alas! The weekend is over and a briefcase full of blues comes as a complimentary pack with Monday. Got to be on time! Where is that darn coffee mug? Is this assignment supposed to go TODAY? Gosh! Been there, done that. Every one of us has been down this road, feeling a lethargic sensation matched with hopelessness at the start of a new week. Sometimes an episode of “The Inbetweeners” isn’t enough to battle the morning gloom. So, we are here to make Monday’s awesome. How do we do that? Let’s take a look at a few things that can make the start of the week exciting.

1. Morning Ritual

Having a morning ritual just organises the day better. Anything that would motivate you to get going for the day. Perhaps a smoothie ritual? It is important to keep the body moving, maybe dance like nobody is watching? “Right foot up, left foot slide – Left foot up, right foot slide”. You can enjoy your favourite song while swaying your way into Monday. You can improvise and prepare breakfast while doing the same. Waking up with a good mood makes the day 100% better.

2. What is “To-Do List”

Preparing a to-do list goes a long way. Mostly Monday’s are often chaotic and unsettling for the first half of the day. A to-do list will help you organise and plan what needs to be done. Spend some time on Sundays and make this list. Soon you’ll realise that you’re better equipped for the start of the week. Catch up on those emails and assignment dates or decide upon what you will wear the next day, these small things will make your Monday morning hasslefree.

3. Monday Reward System

Reward yourself after a good start to the week. Get yourself a brownie or indulge in some retail therapy. Dress to impress? Feel confident by making power dressing a part of your routine. You can also try to convert your Mondays’ into cheat days, that will turn that frown upside down. Exiting zombie mode in 3-2-1.

4. Looking Forward To…

Having a plan makes up for everything. From an extensive weekend plan to a small walk in the park sort of plan, Monday blues won’t be calling on your cell phone anymore with something to look forward to. Plan a date, get together, movie session or anything else that you enjoy. This will keep you motivated towards something or the other and you can keep including things in between. Like a game, tv show or album launch, there are so many things to look forward to.

5. Bed & Breakfast

You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do, folks. Messing your sleep cycle will most definitely mess with your mood. You don’t have to stick to your weekday schedule but getting the right amount is important to start the week. “Breakfast like a king; lunch like a prince; dinner like a pauper.” Jumpstart the day with a hearty breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, corn flakes, bacon, sausages and so much more, who can say no to an amazing breakfast. Just don’t repeat what Michael Scott did, while everyone likes to wake up to the smell of bacon but there are better ways to do that than burning your foot.

Monday’s are tough and we find ourselves a bit on the edge, but what if we flip the coin? It is the best day to set new goals and learn from past experiences. Joining the gym and following a diet plan? Probably from next MONDAY. Let’s put on some music and get started, Alexa: Play Monday morning blues!
