Payment Info

You can pay your rent online via bank transfer. Bank account details, dates and amounts are all set out in your rental agreement which you sign before you secure your room.

Bond Payment

You will be required to pay a bond as stated in the confirmation of your lease when you arrive at University Square. The amount of the bond is in equivalent to 4 weeks’ rent in Australia dollars. It is refunded at the end of your tenancy, usually within 14 days, providing there is no damage to the property and it is left in good condition.

Bank Surcharges

0.5% per transaction on domestic account/card direct debit payments, 1.0% per transaction on international Mastercard/direct debit payments, 1.5% for per transaction on Visa card/direct debit payments, 2.5% for per transaction on Union Pay payments is charged.

Booking Info

Cancelling more than 30 days before agreement start date
You can cancel a tenancy agreement without penalty provided written notice has been provided to The Student Housing Company at least 30 calendar days prior to the agreement start date.

Cancelling less than 30 days before agreement start date
If cancellation is made less than 30 days before the agreement start date you will be charged a break lease fee of 1 weeks rent.

One less worry if you don’t receive your University Offer or Student Visa
Cancellation of the agreement due to failure to secure a University Offer or Student Visa will be without penalty provided notice is given in writing, within 14 days of agreement start date and supported with written verification confirming decline of offer and/or visa. If this is provided less than 14 days prior to the start of the agreement you will be charged a break lease fee of 1 weeks rent.

Q. How do I get to you?

University Square is opposite the University of Melbourne and only a short stroll to RMIT and Melbourne CBD.

Light Rail Station

The nearest stop to University Square is Haymarket. It's roughly 200m from the residence. 

Bus

The closest bus station is Melbourne University (when we said we were close - we meant it!). It is approximately a 1-minute walk to us, or if you want to go elsewhere, bus number 505 runs a regular service.

Q. Who can live at University Square?

If you're a full-time student, enrolled at a University in Melbourne, you can live with us at University Square. Copy of your certificate of enrollment or acceptance confirmation from your university as part of the application process.

Q. How old do I have to be to live at University Square?

You must be at least 18 years old as at the date that you sign the rental agreement. If you are under 18 years old, your parent or a legal guardian needs to countersign the rental agreement.

Q. Are all the apartments the same? Do I have a choice of the room?

Not all the apartments are the same. Whilst they all benefit from the same high standards, modern style, and great features, there are different types of apartments, lots are different sizes and the view will vary. 

Q. What does ‘all inclusive’ rent mean? Is anything not included?

Our rooms are fully furnished and are all-inclusive of utility bills, internet, and other communal facilities. Your monthly rent covers everything in your apartment and there are no other hidden costs. You have full use of all the common areas within the building as well as all utilities such as gas and electricity, a high-speed WiFi and the friendly services and support provided by our onsite customer service and maintenance teams.

There are a couple of things which are not included in the rent such as the laundry and dryer machines & TV license.

Q. I am under 18, Am I allowed to stay at the property?

Yes, Students going to the University of Melbourne or RMIT, and under 18 years of age can book and stay at the property.

Q. What follows after CAAW is Issued?

We require under 18 students to submit the below documents before arrival:

  • A copy of ID or Passport bio page
  • A copy of Confirmation of Enrolment (COE)
  • A copy of student visa
  • A copy of CAAW

Q. How does the property ensure the welfare of under 18 students?

The property works very closely with the education provider to ensure everything we do is in compliance with legislation to protect under 18s. Below are a few

  • Clear escalation and incident reporting mechanism with education
